About the Book
This practical book covers the design of all the unit operations present in the electronic grade water preparation facilities. This book reviews the basic theory and then stresses the application of the theory to the solution of real world industrial problems. The text is written at the level of professional engineers but is sufficiently basic so that it is useful to engineering students at the university level. In order to enhance the understanding of the material contained in this book, several numerical problems are interspersed in the text.

The numerical problems discussed are formulated in such a way as to be readily comprehensible to professional engineers of electronic grade water treatment facilities, as well as university students majoring in chemical engineering. Theoretical examples presented in this book are close to those actually encountered in practice. Before examples in any section are worked out, they are first preceded by an outline of basic theoretical concepts and supplemented with design formulae. With very few established courses on this subject in the university or in industry, this book will serve as a useful basic training text on the design of unit processes in electronic grade water preparation.

About the Authors
Avijit Dey, Ph. D., received his Ph. D. in chemical engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India. He is the recipient of Gold Medal from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (Pilani), India based on his performance in Master of Engineering programme. Dr. Dey has 15 years of professional experience in the field of water and wastewater treatment. He has taught applied environmental engineering in Bengal Engineering College, India. He has served as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Since 1997, he has been working as the Research and Development Manager at Chemitreat, Singapore. Chemitreat is a Singapore-based trans-national water and wastewater treatment company. He has troubleshot hundreds of systems worldwide. Dr. Dey has authored or co-authored 45 papers in research journals. His major research interests include high purity water production, wastewater reclamation, and recycling in semiconductor industry. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), and International Desalination Association (IDA).

Gareth Thomas has over 23 years of working experience with British, American, and Australian multinational companies. Since joining Chemitreat as Managing Director in 1988 he has developed a detailed understanding of the process design needs of the high-purity water production market and the consequent wastewater implications for Wafer Fabrication and semiconductor plants. He has led Chemitreat into researching, developing, papenting, and implementing innovative technologies. Consequently, Chemitreat has been the first to use many technologies. He has written and presented individually and jointly over 20 papers in various areas of water and wastewater treatment as well as total quality management, the future development of discharge standards for government concerns. He has been a board member of the Singapore government’s Environmental Research Institute and has been invited as an advisor to the Singapore government on the direction of research needs
